Aloha, friends. I recently had the pleasure of spending a couple days in Hawaii’s favorite destination — Las Vegas! — with some of the brightest real estate investment minds around. This was a gathering of the founders and coaches of the FortuneBuilders Mastery real estate investment education program.
I’m talking about people like Than Merrill and Paul Esajian, who you may have seen on the TV show “Flip This House“. What’s great about Than and Paul is that while they’ve achieved high levels of success, they’re really down-to-earth guys. No glitz, no glamour, no paparazzi — just stand-up guys who figured out how to make this business work and decided to teach others.
We had approximately 75 of the FortuneBuilders coaches descent on the MGM Grand for two days of solid brainstorming about how to make the program even better. For me, it’s just fantastic to surround myself with brilliance. They say you can tell a lot about someone by the 5 (or is it 15?) people they spend the most time around. They you are who you surround yourself with. I believe in that 100% which is why it was worth it for me to continue from 12 days in Atsugi, Japan with my girlfriend’s family directly on to Vegas. Jet lag, be gone! (actually, the jet lag was pretty bad)
If you’re in the real estate investment business, I believe it’s absolutely critical to surround yourself with a solid group of like-minded individuals. They don’t need to be in the real estate business nor do they need to be personal development junkies (I happen to love PD), but it’s so important to have a consistent message of success and optimism coming from your peers. I happen to love having an incredible group of real estate minds as mentors, peers and friends.
Here in Hawaii, we’re so fortunate to live in a beautiful tropical paradise with abundant sunshine. It’s very easy to get those seratonin levels up and smile from dawn to dusk. But nevertheless, it takes a concerted effort sometimes to stay focused, energetic and positive in a business that has more than its share of pitfalls. Surrounding ourselves with the right people can often be the difference in making it big in real estate.
